Walk through the house. One room at a time.

Health News Blog covers the everyday gear behind cleaner-looking water, fresher-feeling air, comfortable humidity and easier home cooking. The catalog is laid out like the home it belongs in: pick a room on the plan, or a numbered marker for a single item. The blog explains the labels and standards on the box, in plain language, with the source linked.

Short explainers on the numbers and seals printed on household gear: filter ratings, certification standards, humidity readings and cooking temperatures. Each one leans on public sources such as the EPA, the CDC, the USDA and NSF, and links to them.

  1. Safe Cooking Temperatures, and Where the Thermometer Goes

The USDA's minimum internal temperatures in one place, why rest time is part of the number, and how to take a reading that means something.

  2. Water Filter Certifications Explained: NSF/ANSI 42, 53 and Friends

What each standard number on a pitcher or shower filter box covers, how to look a product up in the certifier's listing, and what "reduces" means there.

  3. Indoor Humidity Basics: Reading a Hygrometer at Home

What relative humidity is, the indoor range the EPA points to, and where a humidifier and a hygrometer fit into an ordinary week.

  4. How to Read a CADR Label on an Air Purifier Box

Three numbers, one room size and a certification seal: what the CADR label measures and how to match it to the room you actually have.

  5. What "True HEPA" Means on an Air Purifier Box

Where the HEPA definition comes from, which particle size it refers to, and why words like "HEPA-type" are not the same thing.

How we choose

The same checks in every room

Spec sheets · standards · dated prices

Established brands, Amazon only

Every item is a known brand with a live Amazon listing we opened ourselves. Our product links are Amazon affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you.

The spec sheet, read literally

We report what the listing and the manufacturer publish: capacity, filter type, rated numbers, materials, care instructions. We do not run lab tests, and we say so when a claim cannot be checked.

Standards checked at the source

A certification or rating is credited only if we can find it with the program that issues it, such as an NSF listing or an AHAM-rated CADR, not just printed on a box.

No health promises

These are household products, not medical devices. We describe what an item does and how to maintain it; we do not claim it protects you from anything, and we date every price.
