OXO Good Grips 6.22 Qt Salad Spinner, White (32480)

A pump-top spinner that dries rinsed greens and herbs and doubles as a colander and serving bowl. This entry gives its capacities, how the pump, brake and lock work, and how to clean it.

The short version

  • $32.95 on Sep 30, 2026, sold by Amazon.com. There are no filters or parts to replace.
  • It dries produce; it doesn't clean it on its own. FDA's advice is to rinse produce under running water, which you can do right in the basket.

What the standards and sources say

No certification applies to a salad spinner. What's worth knowing is what food-safety guidance says about the step that comes before the spin. The FDA's advice on preparing fresh produce [1]:

  • Start with clean hands: wash for at least 20 seconds with soap and warm water, both when you start and when you finish.
  • Cut away damaged or bruised areas, and throw away produce that looks rotten.
  • Rinse produce thoroughly under running water before preparing or eating it, whether it came from a store, a farmers' market or your garden.
  • Don't wash produce with soap, detergent or commercial produce washes. The FDA says produce can absorb soap, and that the safety and effectiveness of produce-wash residues haven't been established.
  • Scrub firm produce such as melons and cucumbers with a clean produce brush.
  • After washing, dry produce with a clean cloth or paper towel.
  • Packaged produce labeled pre-washed or ready-to-eat can be used without washing again. If you do rinse it, keep it away from unclean surfaces and utensils.

The FDA also says washing can reduce what may be on the surface of produce, though not all of it [1]. So the spinner's job is mechanical: it spins off rinse water so leaves aren't soggy and dressing isn't watered down. OXO markets the basket as a colander, and you can rinse greens under the tap right in it. The spinning itself isn't a cleaning step, and we don't claim it removes anything but water.

Before you buy

Check storage space first. At about 10.25 inches across and nearly 7 inches tall, it takes up as much room as a big mixing bowl. If you mostly rinse a handful of herbs, a smaller spinner or a plain colander and towel may be enough.

How to set it up and keep it up

This is how the listing describes using and caring for it, plus the FDA's order of operations for the produce itself.

  1. Wash it once day one

Take the lid apart, then wash the bowl, basket and lid pieces, either in the dishwasher on the top rack or by hand.

  2. Rinse, then spin every use

Put the greens in the basket and rinse them under running water at the sink. Set the basket in the bowl, put the lid on, and pump until the leaves look dry. Press the brake, then lift out the basket and pour the water out of the bowl.

  3. Take the lid apart to dry after each use

The lid separates so water doesn't sit inside it. Wash all parts (top rack recommended) and let them dry fully before reassembling.

  4. Lock it for storage after each use

Press the pump handle down and slide the storage lock into place so the top sits flush and can stack.

Price and where it is sold

On Sep 30, 2026 the listing showed the OXO Good Grips 6.22 qt salad spinner in White at $32.95, shipped and sold by Amazon.com, In Stock, with a free 30-day refund or replacement return window. The listing also offers other sizes; this entry covers the large 6.22 qt one. Nothing needs replacing on a schedule. Prices change; this is a dated snapshot.

Who should look elsewhere

  • Anyone short on cabinet space. At about 10 inches across, it is a big bowl to store.
  • Anyone expecting a produce cleaner. The FDA's advice is rinsing under running water; the spinner only removes the rinse water afterward.
  • Anyone with a food-safety question about a specific food or a recall. Check FDA or FoodSafety.gov guidance for that food, or ask your local health department.
