Etekcity Food Kitchen Scale, Digital Grams and Ounces, 11 lb (EK6015)

A flat stainless-steel scale for weighing ingredients; this entry reads its manual for capacity, steps and units, and explains why grams make recipes easier to repeat.

The short version

  • A food scale (model EK6015) that weighs up to 11 lb / 5,000 g in 1-gram steps, with tare and five display units.
  • $13.99 on Sep 30, 2026, sold by Amazon.com. It runs on two AAA batteries (included, already fitted) and has no other running costs.
  • It is a food scale for the countertop. Five kilos is plenty for recipes, but too little for a big stockpot full of soup.

What the spec sheet shows

We read Etekcity's US user manual for the EK6015, Etekcity's product page, and the Amazon listing for ASIN B0113UZJE2, all on Sep 30, 2026. The listing's model and part number both read EK6015, in the stainless steel finish.

SpecValueWhat to know
Capacity11 lb / 5,000 g / 176 ozOver the limit, the display shows "EEEE." Weigh the empty bowl first, because it counts toward the 5 kg.
Increments1 g / 0.05 oz / 1 mLFrom the manual's spec table. That is fine for flour and water, but too coarse for weighing a pinch of yeast or salt precisely.
Unitsg, mL, oz, lb:oz, fl ozPress UNIT to cycle through them. The manual lists mL and fl oz but doesn't say how it converts weight to volume, so we'd use those only for water.
Tare / zeroZ/T buttonZeroes out the container so you see only what you add.
Auto-off2 min (backlight 30 s)Worth knowing if you pause mid-recipe; press the power button again to wake it.
Power2 × AAAAlready installed. Pull the plastic tab before first use.
Size7.3 × 5.7 × 0.6 inThin enough to store upright in a drawer or next to cutting boards.
Platform304 stainless steelPer the listing. Wipe it clean; don't rinse it under the tap.
Warranty2 yearsEtekcity's limited warranty, per the manual. It excludes commercial use.

What the standards and sources say

No food-safety certification applies to a home kitchen scale, and Etekcity's listing and manual don't claim one. The listing states a 1-gram increment [3]. Neither the listing nor the manual gives a separate tolerance figure (how far a reading may be from the true weight), so we can't tell you one. What the manual does say bears on accuracy: use the scale on a hard, dry, flat surface, place items in the center, let the reading settle for a few seconds, and replace the batteries when the low-battery "Lo" indicator appears [1].

Why weigh at all? A cup measure changes with how you fill it, and a gram doesn't. USDA's FoodData Central reference database lists one cup of all-purpose flour at 125 grams and one cup of granulated sugar at 200 grams [4], and baking references that scoop differently print slightly different figures. Weighing sidesteps that variation. With tare, you can put the mixing bowl on the scale, zero it, and add each ingredient straight into the bowl. That means fewer measuring cups to wash and a recipe that comes out the same next time. The same goes for splitting a batch of dough into equal rolls, or dividing a pot of chili into equal freezer containers.

Before you buy

Check the weight of your heaviest bowl or pot. Everything on the platform counts toward the 5 kg limit, container included. A heavy stand-mixer bowl or a filled Dutch oven can use up most of it. And because the display steps in whole grams, very small amounts (a teaspoon of yeast or salt) are better measured with spoons.

How to set it up and keep it up

This is the manual's routine, summarized; it is not a promise about accuracy.

  1. Pull the battery tab day one

Open the battery cover on the underside, remove the plastic strip so the pre-installed AAA batteries make contact, and close the cover.

  2. Zero it on a flat, hard surface every use

Turn it on and wait for zero. If it doesn't read zero, press Z/T. Set your bowl down, press Z/T again, then add ingredients to the center of the platform and give the reading a few seconds to settle.

  3. Wipe, don't rinse after each use

The manual says to clean the platform with a damp soft cloth and never immerse the scale. Wipe spills right away so liquid doesn't get into the housing.

  4. Change the batteries when "Lo" shows

Replace both AAA cells together. Don't mix old and new, and check the polarity. If you won't use the scale for a while, take the batteries out.

Price and where it is sold

On Sep 30, 2026 the listing showed the stainless steel EK6015 at $13.99, shipped and sold by Amazon.com, In Stock, with a free 30-day refund or replacement return window. Etekcity's own product page showed the same $13.99 that day. There are no filters or parts to buy; the only running cost is two AAA batteries now and then. Prices change, so read this as a dated snapshot.

Who should look elsewhere

  • Bakers who weigh yeast, salt or spices by the tenth of a gram. A scale that reads in 0.1 g steps is the right tool; this one reads in whole grams.
  • Cooks who weigh big batches in heavy pots. A 5 kg limit with the container included runs out fast.
  • Anyone who wants a dishwasher-safe or waterproof scale. The manual says never to immerse it.
  • Anyone weighing for a commercial kitchen. The manual says the scale is not meant for commercial or heavy-duty use, and the warranty excludes it.
