The short version
- Coway states a CADR of 233 for smoke, 246 for dust and 240 for pollen, and a 361 sq ft room at 4.8 air changes per hour. We did not find the model in AHAM's current directory, so read these as Coway's own figures.
- $154.99 on Sep 30, 2026 (AP-1512HH(W), White), sold by Amazon.com. Coway's filter set (one HEPA plus two deodorization filters) was $59.79 on Coway's site, roughly one set a year.
- It has an ionizer (Coway calls it a bipolar device) with its own on/off button. CARB lists the model as "Electronic", meaning it was tested for ozone output.
Not a stand-in for a range hood; cooking steam and grease belong to the vent fan.
Works in a larger sleeping area; the indicator light can be switched off.
The manual says not to install it where it is exposed to moisture.
Sized for a living room of about 360 sq ft.

What the spec sheet shows
We read the Amazon listing, Coway's AP-1512HH product page, its one-page spec sheet and the US owner's manual (Nov 2025 revision) on Sep 30, 2026. Where the sources give different numbers, both are shown.
| Spec | Value | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| CADR (smoke / dust / pollen) | 233 / 246 / 240 | Coway's product page and spec sheet. The Amazon bullets we read do not repeat the numbers. |
| Room at 4.8 air changes/hr | 361 sq ft | The everyday planning figure. Coway assumes an 8 ft ceiling. |
| Room at 2 and 1 air changes/hr | 874 / 1,748 sq ft | The "1,748 sq ft" in the listing title is one slow pass per hour. |
| Filters | Pre-filter + deodorization + HEPA | Plus a bipolar ionizer. Pre-filter is washable; the other two are replaced. |
| Filter life (maker) | 6 months / 1 year | Deodorization filter / HEPA filter, based on 8 hours a day at top speed, per the manual. |
| Fan modes | Auto, 1, 2, 3, Eco | In Eco, the fan stops after 30 minutes with no pollution detected. |
| Noise | 24–53 dB(A) | Product page. The one-sheet PDF says 24.4–55.1 dB(A). |
| Power | 77 W, 120 V | Plug into a grounded outlet, per the manual. |
| Size and weight | 16.8 × 18.3 × 9.6 in; 12.3 lb | Coway's weight; the Amazon listing says 12.5 lb. |
| Warranty | 3 years / 1 year | Per the manual: 3 years on motor and electronic parts, 1 year on other internal parts. |
What the standards and sources say
CADR and AHAM. A clean air delivery rate measures how much filtered air a unit delivers, tested with smoke, dust and pollen. AHAM's Verifide program publishes the ratings it has checked, with a suggested room size based on 4.8 air changes per hour [5]. We searched AHAM's directory on Sep 30, 2026 for "AP-1512", "Mighty" and "Coway" in the US and Canadian markets [4]. We got no results, and Coway was not among the brands the directory offered. So the 233/246/240 figures on this page are Coway's stated numbers [2], not an AHAM listing we could confirm. Our CADR label explainer shows how to size a room.
CARB and the ionizer. California requires portable air cleaners sold there to be CARB-certified. CARB's site blocked our automated request, so we read its list through an Internet Archive copy dated Sep 19, 2026 [6]. It shows "Coway Air Purifier AP-1512HH" and "AP-1512HH[W]", type Electronic, Executive Order G-16-011, notified January 4, 2016. The same model also appears in an older 2013 entry under the Woongjin Coway name. CARB says "Electronic" devices may be capable of generating ozone but tested at or below 0.050 parts per million. It also says its certification does not reflect effectiveness. Coway's manual states the same 0.050 ppm limit and describes an Ionizer button that turns the ionizer on or off [3]. If you would rather run filtration only, press that button.
The HEPA wording. Coway's pages call the main filter a HEPA filter, and the one-sheet says "True HEPA". None of the pages we read names a test standard for the filter. Our post on what "True HEPA" means covers why that matters. The listing markets the unit for smoke, pet dander, odors and pollen; we describe it here only by its filters and airflow.
Newer variants exist: the Airmega Mighty2 (AP-1512N) appears in CARB's list as a Mechanical device, meaning no ionizer. This entry covers the original AP-1512HH, the one on the ASIN we checked. Buy the right filter set too: Coway's AP-1512HH set is shared with the Airmega 200M, and the AP-1512HHS uses a different one.
How to set it up and keep it up
This summarizes Coway's owner's manual. It is the maintenance the maker describes, not a promise of any result.
Unbag the filters and place the unit day one
Open the front cover and take each filter out of its plastic bag. Reinstall them in order (HEPA, then deodorization, then pre-filter), with the "front" side facing out. Leave at least 20 cm (8 in) from walls and 30–60 cm above the unit. Keep it out of direct sun and at least 2 m from a TV.
Let Auto mode run daily use
The unit starts in Auto, which sets fan speed from its dust sensor. Eco stops the fan after 30 quiet minutes. Holding the Ionizer button for 3 seconds switches the colored air-quality light off, which helps at night.
Clean the pre-filter every 2–4 weeks
Unplug the unit, unclip the pre-filter and vacuum it, or rinse it with water if it is very dirty. Dry it completely before refitting. Never wash the deodorization or HEPA filters.
Clean the sensor and vents every 2 months
Open the sensor cover on the right side and clean the lens and its inlet and outlet with a lightly damp cotton swab, then a dry one. Brush the air inlet and outlet. Do this more often in a dusty house.
Replace filters and reset 6 months / 1 year
Replace the deodorization filter about every 6 months and the HEPA filter about once a year, or when the indicator blinks. Press the reset button for 2 seconds afterwards.
Price and where it is sold
On Sep 30, 2026 the listing showed $154.99 for the AP-1512HH(W) in white, sold and shipped by Amazon.com, with a free 30-day refund or replacement. Coway's own store listed the purifier at $239.99 that day. Coway's AP-1512HH & 200M filter set (one HEPA filter, two deodorization filters) was $59.79 on Coway's site. On the maker's schedule that is about one set a year, since the set covers two 6-month deodorization changes and one HEPA change. Prices move; these are the figures from that date.
Who should look elsewhere
- Anyone furnishing a small sleeping area of 200 sq ft or less. The Levoit Core 300-P is stated for 222 sq ft and is smaller and cheaper to run.
- Anyone who wants a filtration-only design with no ionizer at all. You can switch this one off, but a Mechanical-listed model avoids the question.
- Anyone who needs an AHAM-listed CADR. Check the directory yourself before relying on the numbers above.
- Anyone with a health question about their indoor air should ask a clinician or local health department; a household appliance is not a medical device.
